This page discusses basic template and template groups (folders) handling.

Template handling

When you have template editor (aka layouter) rights, you will be able to turn on the “Administrator” view in the primdocs App.

This displays all the categories in the left hand column, including categories that regular users don’t see sich as categories that contain unpublished templates or categories which contain files not intended for all users.

As a layouter, you may need to create new categories and/or copy or move templates from one category to the other. Some end users refer to these categories as “folders” - and to all intents and purposes, the two terms are synonyms in the primedocs App.

The ribbon section highlighted in the screenshot above contains the following buttons:

  • Delete template: This button deletes the currently-marked template, so use it carefully. Note that deleted templates can still be restored in the Admin dashboard (web page), but it is possible that you do not have access to this page in your organisation - so you may have to contact your helpdesk or service desk for assistance here.

  • Copy or move template: As the name suggests, this allows you to move or to copy (duplicate) a template.

  • Edit groups: Here you can rename groups (folders), add or change the order. You can also remove groups here.

  • Template up / down: This moves the marked template up or down within the group it is in. So you can change the sort order manually with these functions.

  • Template distribution: This forces a synchronisation with the primedocs server, thereby “pushing” any changes you may have made to the server, from where other users can see and use the changes.

Importing templates out of primedocs pro

You can import a Word template into primedocs pro easily, and then you can edit it using primedoc pro’s editing and document parameter features, which we’ll be discussing at greater length later.

To import a Word template into primedocs pro, choose a primedocs pro template, and then click on Edit Template.

Now open the Import menu.

“Import template document” will allow you to choose an existing Word template file (*.dotx) and import it here.

Note that headers and footers of the imported document are ignored if the template is based on a layout template.
